Lunar New Year releases have only become more and more prevalent since Nike came out with its first zodiac-inspired shoe in 2002, with all the biggest brands now consistently dressing their most popular models in YOTx makeup at the start of every new year. As we approach the “Year Of The Snake” on January 29th, we’ve put together full breakdowns on all the Jordan, adidas, and now Nike shoes on tap.
Here we have two Dunks and two Air Force 1s; one each for men and women. Relying on snakeskin material would have been easy enough, but the collection as a whole keeps the reptilian texture to a minimum. All four pairs come with red and gold snakeskin tongue labels, complemented by Zhongguo Jie knots symbolizing luck, harmony, reunion, and love.
Both “Year Of The Snake” Dunks feature quilted, snake-inspired satin lining, differing when is comes to their color and other add-ons. The women’s pair features maroon overlays and pops of gold on the tongue and Swoosh, packaged with rope and flat laces as well as a metallic gold snake dubrae. The men’s pair keeps things a touch simpler, taken in white and sage green with just one set of standard white laces.
As for the Air Force 1, which was the canvas for Nike’s first ever Lunar New Year release back in ’02, the women’s pair spruces up in white/gold while the men’s strikes a more conservative note in almost all-white. The snake-inspired pattern seen on the Dunks appears on the backtab of the women’s colorway and heel panel of the men’s, with both looks coming with the same aforementioned gold dubraes.
Importantly, this only sums up the totality of Nike’s lifestyle “Year Of The Snake” shoes. The Nike Basketball banner will see the release of “Year Of The Mamba” Kobe 5 Protros in honor of the holiday, not to mention a GT Cut 3 (which is available now).
Release dates for the four shoes previewed here have yet to be announced, but those eager to cop can expect Nike’s “Year Of The Snake” collection to land before or around January 29th, 2025. See detailed images of all four pairs below and stick with us for further updates.
