When you’ve been in the business for as long as Nike has, with the size of its catalog, not every shoe is going to be a smash hit. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, as the Swoosh is the industry leader in “if you know, you know” silhouettes; shoes that may not have been category leaders, but nonetheless made enough of an impact to warrant bring-back requests after they’ve receded.
The Nike Air Max Plus VII absolutely fits the bill, a later stage entry into the series Sean McDowell began. Each numbered Air Max Plus maintained a connection to the original Tn in the sole unit before changing out its uppers, with the VII finding its core concept in psychedelic dotted synthetics up top. We can’t concretely say whether this “Light Smoke Grey/Hot Curry” pair is meant to echo the Air Max 95 “Hot Curry” or if it’s an expression of a pantone that’ll make repeat appearances for Spring/Summer at Nike, but it does a fine job of riding the line between staid and experimental, putting forth an everyday script with neutral tones that dominate its profile before heating up with orange Swooshes and the everlasting yellow Tn stamp.
The Nike Air Max Plus VII “Light Smoke Grey/Hot Curry” should be coming to Nike.com in short order, retailing for $180. Catch official images in the gallery below and watch our Sneaker Release Dates page for more info as it comes.
