For sneakerheads of a certain age, there is something that simply feels right about Nike and Wale working together again. Industry veteran Frank Cooker, who returned to Nike in 2024, has arguably put it best, noting that the brand is “restoring the feeling” of sneaker culture’s brightest eras by reconnecting with the faces and names that have long been at its epicenter. Nothing has epitomized that shift quite like Wale’s involvement in the marketing for the Nike GT Future, Nike’s newest and perhaps most significant inline basketball model in recent memory.
NIL athlete and potential No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa has been the on-court face of the GT Future, while the DMV rapper has been feeding the streets with teasers of upcoming styles throughout much of 2025. That role now culminates in the release of his very own colorway, a blue gradient design landing exclusively at Foot Locker on December 13th. Official images show a blue-gradient upper, iridescent Swoosh logos, and black hits on the tongue, lining, and outsole, sticking closely to the established design blueprint so far. Zooming in, Wale’s signature script logo appears on the insoles.
Nike’s decision to involve Wale in the marketing for the Nike GT Future stems from his previous work with the brand in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The artist was regularly tapped to debut upcoming product, particularly Foamposite stylessince he hails from the Foam capital of the world in the DMV area. The GT Future is not a Foamposite sneaker, but its molded exterior is undeniably Foamposite-esque. A more accurate comparison, perhaps, is the Nike Zoom Hyperflight, which is not so coincidentally expected to return in 2026.
Wale’s Nike GT Future releases in-store only at select Foot Locker locations on December 13th. Retail is set at $200 USD. We’ll circle back soon with a full store list.
