The Nike Kobe line has historically stuck close to the Los Angeles Lakers’ color scheme, as the only team Bryant ever played for. This year, Nike will reimagine the Kobe 4 Protro in thirteen colors, representing each team that passed on him before his selection.
The 1996 NBA Draft was one for the ages. That year featured an incredibly stacked list of players, including some truly legendary names like Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury, and of course, Kobe Bryant. Bryant, now one of the most respected and beloved basketball of all time, was passed over by a dozen picks before being selected at #13 by the Charlotte Hornets, and immediately traded to the Lakers. This year, Nike is celebrating that historic class with a collection of Kobe 4 colorways that reimagine what the Mamba’s signature shoe might have looked like if he played for each team in the draft.
In total, the Kobe 4 Protro “Draft Day” collection is expected to feature thirteen colorways of the fan-favorite sneaker. So far, three of them have already surfaced early, leaving ten other styles yet to emerge. The “Raptors”, “Bucks”, and “Celtics” looks have leaked, and the style information regarding the remainder give us a good idea of what to expect come this Summer. Each pair comes in a crisp white leather build, using each team’s colors for a Swoosh outline, and the 8 & 24 branding on the heels. The Raptors pair uses a red Swoosh and purple numbers, while the Bucks & Celtics pairs look nearly identical, sporting black Swoosh outlines and green detailing.
