Given the size of their empire, we wouldn’t fault you from thinking there’s a new “next big lifestyle shoe” out of Beaverton seemingly every few months. However, while the next step in “Dynamic Air” and that archive-digging effort are noteworthy on their own merits, the Nike Ava Rover benefits from being the most visible spotlight of new tech.

ReactX foam in the platform for the Ava Rover stands as its most significant development, the first casual adaptation of the climate-conscious cushioning after it dotted performance shoes like the Pegasus 41 or comfort-minded ones like the ReactX Rejuven8. Pair that with the slim yet supportive hardware up top and the pixelated design language seen on the midsole and graphic mudguard and we’re buying what the Swoosh is selling. Given how early into the shoe’s life cycle we are, we’re not necessarily expecting the most expressive colorways just yet, but the “College Grey” at hand is sensible enough, delivering a monochromatic, darkened palette that aligns with the colder months ahead.
