At this stage, nearly every brand has some sort of take on the “sneaker loafer.” We’ll leave the question of whether they’re direct responses to the New Balance 1906L or if they’re simply products of the same trends for another day, but new looks for each silhouette continue to populate the newswire, indicating that this is far from a flash-in-the-pan trend. The HOKA Speed Loafer in particular is only gaining steam as the months go on, following up its shockingly coveted first all-black with a set of two new looks.
Utilizing the platform from the Speedgoat 5, the Speed Loafer delivers the mashup construction that’s become a hallmark of the category, a Frankenstein mashup with a traditional tasseled loafer upper. In this two-pack, we see ties to the inaugural two, with a “Walnut” colorway delivering on the comprehensive tonal palette that the all-black sported, this time further delving into formalwear with refined brown leather. Its counterpart, a “Birch” variation, cops the split blocking from the earlier “Asphalt/Ember,” iterating with a calmer blend of off-white uppers and a navy mudguard and sole unit.
The HOKA Speed Loafer in “Walnut” and “Birch” are currently set to hit HOKA.com and partnering retailers on August 7th, retailing for $185 a piece.
