After a relatively quiet debut in late 2024, the New Balance 509 is ready to enter the techy dad-shoe arena. The silhouette is fresh on our radars thanks to Comme des Garcons’ Paris Fashion Week showing earlier in January, but it was actually Dohee Kim of South Korea’s XLIM that brought it into the mix last AW2024 season.

This red/tan proposition is actually Kim’s third overall project with the revived model. Last season XLIM debuted the 509 to market with two glossy finishes in both black and a dark plum purple. Kim pivots heavily for the third colorway, delivering a rouge red with hairy suede mudguards and overlays above a breathable mesh upper.

A pecan brown contrasts the boldness of the upper, appearing on the slanted-N logo, the entirety of the midsole, and the 509 markings towards the rear.
