Wicked is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history, with over 8,500 performances and more than 15 million attendees in New York alone. The musical’s film adaptation — starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba — has been predictably successful as well, becoming the highest-grossing musical film adaptation ever upon hitting theaters last year. With Wicked: For Good set to release on November 21st this year, PUMA is getting in on the moment with a collaborative collection centered around its most popular silhouette: the Speedcat.
A must-have for all Wicked die-hards (and there are a lot of them), the collection is anchored by styles dedicated to Glinda and Elphaba, the story’s two main characters. Glinda’s pair champions her femininity with a soft pink and purple colorway, complete with frills and embroidery to match her iconic dress. The character’s bubble — a sphere of energy that provides protection and the ability to fly — materializes via stitched graphics on the lateral side, accompanied by a glittery Formstrip. Elphaba’s pair, meanwhile, stands out with ruffled black material across the tongue and much of the forefoot. Green foil stitching nods to the character’s green skin, while both pairs feature matching Wicked logos on the tongue.
PUMA is also set to release a Wicked Speedcat Ballet inspired by the slippers from The Wizard of Oz — which were originally silver rather than red (they were changed to red later to better showcase the film’s use of color).
The Glinda and Elphaba Speedcats will be available in women’s ($110), Grade School ($90), and Pre-School ($80) sizing, while the Speedcat Ballet will be offered in women’s ($90) and Grade School ($75) sizes. The entire footwear lineup, along with a collection of tees, will be available via PUMA on November 5th.
