ASICS largely marches to the beat of its own drum, an ethos that helped it set the stage for what’s become a dominant force in the “retro runner” movement. As they’ve developed fresh inventions to go along with their stable of archival options, they’ve also demonstrated a willingness to iterate on those new faces: the ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 a recent example and the ASICS GEL-Kinectic the absolute latest.

In almost the same process that Nike developed with the Dn into the DN8, the GEL-Kinetic Fluent 2.0 adds a double dose of the Japanese giant’s patented tech, now staddling the mid and forefoot in addition to the rear propulsion. Translucent TPU cages surrounding that only add to the futuristic lean of the silhouette as a whole, bolstered by eccentric touches like sectioning in the upper that evokes mule construction but truly reveals a double-layered setup around the foot.

This colorway sticks in the tech-forward aesthetic, pairing metallic silver now synonymous with the aughts with a chilly “Blue Coast,” maybe most impactful with the pbrightened synthetic plate at the rear and the ASICS logo in the same tonality. Expect the ASICS GEL-Kinetic 2.0 in “Blue Coast” to hit shelves this April, retailing for $240.
