Save for the recent return of the “Protection Pack,” the New Balance 2002R has largely shifted toward low-key essential styles as newer silhouettes like the 2010 and 2000 expand their share of the brand’s catalog. It is an understandable strategy on two fronts: it gives New Balance’s newer models room to take center stage while also acknowledging that the 2002R is arguably the brand’s strongest lifestyle shoe of the past decade, meaning clean colorways are still needed to satisfy ongoing demand.

Just catching the tail end of autumn, this 2002R features beige Arid Stone suede atop a brown Black Coffee mesh base. Grey leather underlays make another familiar appearance, complemented by Black Coffee New Balance logos on both sides. The sole unit comes mostly in black, save for subtle beige hits around the ABZORB SBS cushioning pods in the heel.
