Since 2004, Nike has worked with the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to release sneakers designed by patients, and auction them as a fundraiser for the hospital. This weekend, the Swoosh unveiled the 2025 collection, releasing to the public soon.
The Nike Doernbecher series is a long-running collaboration with Oregon Health & Science University’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, launched in 2004. Each year, Nike works with young patients who design their own sneakers, choosing colors, materials, and details that tell their personal stories of resilience and creativity. The program has produced some of the most unique and heartfelt Nike releases, spanning models like the Air Jordan 1, Air Max, and Dunk. Proceeds from each sale support the hospital, blending design innovation with genuine social impact.
This weekend, Nike unveiled their 2025 collection of the Doernbecher series, the 21st entry in this collaboration. The initial pairs were auctioned off on Friday to raise funds for the children’s hospital, with more pairs available to the public later this year. As usual, six sneaker silhouettes are included in this year’s release, with each patient getting to choose and design their signature pair. Leading off is Zach Rumbaugh, who designed a clean purple colorway for the Air Jordan 17 Low. Next is Oli Fasone-Lancaster, bringing his love of food to the Air Force 1. Molly Bell’s take on the Zoom Vomero Premium features colors and details inspired by her love of the outdoors. Sergio Cano Marquez took an asymmetrical approach to the Air Max Plus, with one shoe dedicated to video games and art, and the other showcasing giant lizards enjoying a pizza party. Raegan Scheid’s pair of the Air Max Dn8 gets a color scheme inspired by a sunny day at the beach, and is completed by details inspired by softball. Finally, Khovny Vignery created a pair of the V2K Run dedicated to her family and her favorite animals.
