New Balance debuted a brand new silhouette this year, leaning into the trend of slim sneakers with the 204L. With a number of collaborations under its belt, the shoe has also dropped in excellent in-line styles, like this “Cortado” pair, coming soon.
The 204L merges early-2000s running inspiration with minimalist style for 2025. Its low-profile silhouette draws on ’70s runner proportions, while layered suede and mesh uppers give it a rich, textured feel. Details like arced overlays, an oversized “N” logo, and a thin, sporty outsole nod to NB heritage, yet it presents as a fresh addition to the lifestyle lineup. The model is a direct response from New Balance to the slim sporty sneaker trend, which they helped bring to the forefront of fashion through projects with Miu Miu.
This month, New Balance has another standard-issue style of the 204L arriving in stores, and perhaps one of our favorites yet. The new look embraces the strength of neutral tones, dressing the silhouette in soft shades of brown that have been incredibly popular in the Fall & Winter in recent years. The new style’s color is called “Cortado”, which covers the model’s mesh base layer as well as the suede overlay panes. The shade is somewhat warm for a brown, and is paired with a greyish-brown shade for the leather mid layers and laces. Finally, pastel pink N logos complete the look.
