The Jumpman is the greatest signature athlete logo of all time, and it’s not particularly close. First utilized in 1985 and finding its way onto the Jordan 3 in ’88, the iconic silhouette of Mike flying through the air set a high bar that’s yet to be rivaled by any other subsequent signature logo. This upcoming Jordan 1 Low for women pays homage to the photoshoot that birthed the insignia, set to release on October 24th.

Unlike the Jordan 1 Skyline, which features a sunset gradient akin to the background of the Jumpman photo, this AJ1 takes inspiration from an inverted version of that same iconic picture. Two polaroid images appear on the insoles, one of which features teal and yellow. Taking note from the negative, the shoe itself features a teal patent leather toe box, Swoosh, and heel, mimicking the color and texture of photos. The rest of the upper is comprised of white leather, while an all-black sole caps off the inversion theme underfoot.

Importantly, the Jumpman’s true origin has been the subject of contentious debate. Before Nike shot the now iconic MJ photo, Jordan performed an awfully similar dunk for a LIFE magazine photoshoot wearing New Balance shoes.
