In a rare twist, the most significant new basketball shoe of 2025 might not be a signature model. The Nike GT Future, a modern yet retro-inspired sneaker by the Beaverton brand, has all the makings of future classic, already generating considerable buzz ahead of its Holiday 2025 release. Nike made waves by reuniting with Wale to debut the “Copper Egg” colorway, and now @rcclientele3 has provided us with an even more detailed look.

While not a Nike Foamposite sneaker, the GT Future delivers a comparable aesthetic with a shimmery, grooved synthetic exterior. The similarities are especially evident on this “Copper Egg” colorway, a design clearly motivated by synonymous Foamposite One from 2009. As far as the silhouette goes, the GT Future is probably best compared to Eric Avar’s Nike Zoom Hyperflight (which debuted four years after the Foamposite in 2001). The model begins a new chapter of Nike Basketball’s “Greater Than” line, kicking off another series alongside the Cut, Hustle, and Jump sneaker tentpoles.

Performance specs haven’t been announced yet, but much like Foamposites back in the day, the GT Future is a rare modern basketball sneaker with lifestyle potential. The fact that Nike has chosen to make Wale the face of the GT Future, especially after he was seen rocking the adidas AE1 with jeans, speaks to brand’s high ambitions for model.

Concrete release information for the “Copper Egg” GT Future has yet to arrive, but as mentioned, the model is expected to debut Holiday 2025 for $190. See detailed images below in the meantime.
