The New Balance 1000 remains a cornerstone of the brand’s retro running lineup, embracing a wide variety of styles that cover an equally wide range of aesthetics. Moving away from its traditional “dad shoe” DNA, this latest colorway injects some youthful energy with a high-contrast mix of black and neon.

The colorway itself is fairly straightforward. The tongue, laces, and upper half of the base appear in flashy neon green, while the mudguard, midsole, and sock liner arrive in black. Flashiness aside, the real intrigue comes from a tooling change. The 1000 silhouette traditionally features overlays running along the eyelets on both sides, but not this pair. Instead, the neon top portion of the upper features stitched and embossed detailing in lieu of separate panels, maintaining the curved flow of the silhouette. New Balance has released variations of this nature before, though all previous versions featured mesh — not leather — in that area.
