The Nike Shox R4 will always feel undeniably futuristic, but technically speaking, the first Shox sneaker is now considered “vintage” by most definitions, now sitting a full quarter century removed from its debut. Thus, as we have seen countless times with models like the Dunk and Blazer, the retro runner is now getting a look that matches its age.
The Shox R4 shown here drops its tight-knit twill material in favor of a fully cracked black leather upper that spans the sides, toe overlays, and the top panel that connects the forefoot and heel. A mini Swoosh appears in white on the lateral side of the toe, while the Shox columns come in metallic silver with white bottoms.
This isn’t a pair for everyone, but if you’re into that avant-garde, experimental sort of aesthetic, look for men’s sizes to hit shelves in the near future. The Shox R4 generally retails for $155, though special-edition styles sometimes go slightly higher. In other all-black sneaker news, the “Black Cat” 4s are coming back with Nike Air branding.
