The lines between performance, streetwear, and fashion are more blurred than they’ve ever been. Any keen watcher of the US Open this summer could’ve identified that trend within adidas’ walls, as the brand’s stable of sponsees sported the first-ever Y/3 Tennis collection — a heightened take on typical tennis wear that included designer-like apparel and, of course, footwear. You’ve been able to spot the same leanings within the adidas x Brain Dead catalog for some time as well, but the two partners are staking their truest claim yet with the Barricade 13 duo at hand.

We first caught wind of the Brain Dead x adidas Barricade 13 as the LA label previewed their Fall/Winter Three Stripes offerings at Paris Fashion Week. While previous link-ups centered around kicks like the Forest Hills or Stan Smith, represented through do-ups of archival tennis models, the enduring lifestyle appeal of those shoes made them almost a halfway embrace — altogether street-ready despite their performance history.

The Barricade 13 is built for the court through and through, sporting REPETITOR midsole tech and medial side traction that creeps onto the upper. Despite those sporty bona fides, Brain Dead’s subversive design language is still felt all the same, manifesting with off-kilter brown and yellow detailing on the chrome pair and with burgundy and blue shaggy materials on its counterpart — a touch that’s becoming a signature of these brands’ collabs.

As of this writing, only the silver Brain Dead x adidas Barricade 13 has been listed on adidas’ release calendar. However, the burgundy colorway is displayed prominently in Brain Dead’s campaign shots and represented on retail calendars. We’re expecting both pairs to tip off on October 9th with a sticker price of $160.
