While some have complained that Jordan Brand’s 2026 lineup isn’t that strong, we still have plenty of gems dropping. As we continue to leak upcoming drops, we have the return of the “Space Jam” Air Jordan 9. Initially released in 1993, the 2026 pair will mark the sixth time it has been released. Furthermore, the film Space Jam will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2026, which could be a tribute.

Air Jordan 9 OG Space Jam History

The “Space Jam” Air Jordan 9 is an original colorway that was initially launched in 1993. Although the pair wasn’t initially known as “Space Jam,” most called them “White Black” or “White Black Red.” Fast forward to 2002, and we saw the first retro release. Upon its debut, it didn’t sell off the shelves like the brand had wanted, but like most pairs, they eventually sold out.

The second time we saw the shoes debut was in 2008, and they were a special release. This Air Jordan 9 was part of the Countdown Pack series, helping celebrate the release of the Air Jordan 23. Along with the Jordan 9, you got the Air Jordan 14. Both silhouettes would equal the number 23.

Only two years later, in 2010, we saw another retro release, but this time, it wasn’t part of a pack. Although the blocking was on point, the quality and materials used were lacking. The last time we saw this pair debut was in 2016, which is where the “Space Jam” nickname originates. Michael Jordan was wearing this pair in the film to train, and it was almost stolen from his house by Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny. In 2016, the brand helped celebrate the movie’s 20th Anniversary. Also launched in the same year was the “Space Jam” Air Jordan 11.

As for the 2026 pair, it comes dressed in a White, True Red, and Black color combination. Differentiating itself from past releases, this iconic colorway of the Air Jordan 9 will feature an updated shape, similar to what we’ve seen on recent retros, while also reflecting the 1993 pair. Utilizing White leather on the upper, with Black nubuck on the mudguard that extends to the collar. True Red accents appear on the Jumpman, “Air Jordan” across the tongue, as well as the number “23” and globe on the heels. Lastly, White lands on the outsole with the Jumpman in Red.
